The impact of the Legal Aid Punishment & sentencing of Offenders Act 2012 on access to justice is starting to be evidenced. The Ministry of Justice Family Court Statistics Quarterly October to December 2014 showed that only 22% of all private family law cases had both parties being legally represented, and 29% of all private family law cases have both parties unrepresented. The amount of Private law cases with both parties represented fell by 42% in October - December 2014, compared with last year.
The report also shows that access to Justice is falling as the number of cases starting in the family courts in England & Wales fell by 3%.
